Making your To Do list
Mr. Procrastination
Many people are paralyzed by their inability to make a decision and
get going. One of the biggest culprits goes by the name of Mr. Procrastination.
He is one person we all know yet wish we didn't. He is an absolute
evil thief and time waster. He steals your time while you stand idly
by sometimes even unaware of his crime.
In adults his presence usually represents some type of internal conflict.
Upon making a decision to do something, a part of us still holds us
back. Why?
- We feel overwhelmed
- We overestimate the amount of time we need
- We pine for doing something else
- We feel if we wait long enough
the task will go away
- We fear failure
- We fear success
- We enjoy the last-minute
adrenaline rush challenge
Ways to stop Mr. Procrastination
- Make a Call, Do, See List. Use the last 5 to 7 minutes at the end
of the day to plan the activities for tomorrow. Write down all of the
items that need to be handled tomorrow.
- Keep a time log of how long the various items usually take
- Work
with the time available to you. Break the tasks up into smaller
tasks. You will get satisfaction in completing these and they are
much easier
to handle than the entire task all at once
- Say no to lesser priority tasks and stay focused on
the task at hand.
- Be efficient. Ask yourself is there an easier way
that you can do this. Can it be streamlined?
- Eliminate distractions. Place a do not disturb sign on your
door, chair etc. Let the others around you know that you should
not be
disturbed during this time. Turn that Cell Phone Off!
- Reward yourself for
getting started and accomplishing a difficult task. Make
sure that it is a worthy reward for a worthy accomplishment. It
does not
have to be big. Maybe some extra you time in the bathtub
or
something worthwhile.
-
Learn to delegate when you can. You will accomplish more
with 1 person working with you than 5 people working for
you.
- Expect Problems
and setbacks. Do not be surprised by them. They happen
all the time and they are a part of life. Adapt and Overcome.
- Start today!
Don't Wait for another day!
